In this article, we will look at how to login to our Netgear range extender using various devices such as macOS, Android, and Window based devices, Although the process is almost identical there is a slight difference. We have also discussed why some users are unable to login to their range extender and ways to overcome this.

Login Into Netgear Range Extender Using Mac OS

  An existing wireless router with MAC Address Filtering enabled or Access Control List Feature will translate the MAC addresses connected to the extender to various MAC addresses on the main network thereby resulting in loss of internet access to the connected devices. To connect the devices to the internet, one needs to follow the simple steps

To connect devices to your extender:

  1. Access Control List feature or the MAC Address filtering option should be disabled on your router, making sure that the router LED link remains lit.
  2. The extender should be turned ON followed by connecting the devices to the extender network.
  3. In the web, browser window types the URL:  www.mywifiext.net or www.mywifiext.local in the address bar. As soon as the link opens Username and Password will be asked as shown in the image below.
  4. The default username is admin and the default password is password.
  5. Click on the Network Devices to view the connected devices to the extender.
  6. In the main router user interface add all of the MAC Addresses beginning with 02:0F: B5 under the MAC Address Filtering or Access Control List section.
  7. It enables you to have internet access on all of your wireless devices even if they are connected to the extender network.

How to login Into Netgear Range Extender Using Android

It’s easy to log in to your extender network even using your smartphone, here is a step by step guide for you,

  1. Launch your Web Browser
  2. Enter the Netgear private web address http://192.168.1.5 into your browser
  3. Click Enter and A login panel appears in front of you
  4. Enter your login credentials such as username and password.
  5. Click On the login Button

How to login To Netgear Range Extender Using Window.

After you set up your WiFi mesh or Nighthawk mesh extender, you can log in to the extender to view and change the settings.

To log into your Netgear Range Extender:

  1. Launch a web browser like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Google Chrome from a computer or Android device that is connected to your extender’s network.
    Note: Your router and extender might have different WiFi network names (SSIDs). Verify that you are connected to your extender’s network.
  • Type one of the following URLs into the address field of your web browser:
  • Windows-based computers. http://mywifiext.net or http://mywifiext.local
  • Android devices. http://<extender’s IP address> (for example, http://192.168.1.5).
  1. Click or tap Enter. A login window opens.
  2. Enter your admin username and password.
  3. Click LOG IN. If your browser displays the Menu icon, click on it.
  4. The extender menu displays.
  5. Select Settings to view and adjust your extender’s settings.

Can’t access Netgear extender login page

While trying to access the website http://www.mywifiext.net/ to set up your wireless extender, an error message showing unable to connect to the site may appear as http://www.mywifiext.net/ is not a routine Internet website. In order to access the website, the computer must be either connected by LAN cable or wirelessly to your NETGEAR range extender

On a NETGEAR range extender connected device, the following screen will appear when you access  http://www.mywifiext.net/ website:

On the devices, not connected to NETGEAR range extender visiting http://www.mywifiext.net/ will show the following error screen:

If the device does not have internet access, the following error messages will be seen:

  • Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge. “Page cannot be displayed” or “You are not connected to a network.”
  • Google Chrome. “Unable to connect to the Internet. Google Chrome can’t display the webpage because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet.”
  • Firefox. “Server not found. Firefox can’t find the server at www.mywifiext.net.”
  • Safari. “Can’t find a server.”

If you see something other than one of the screens or messages above, you might have entered the wrong URL. An erroneous web address might lead you to a fraudulent website that may steal your login credentials. Troubleshoot tips If Unable to connect to Netgear Range extender Login Page

Troubleshooting issues connecting to www.mywifiext.net:

  1. Place your range extender and wireless router in the same room for the setup.
    After setup is complete the extender can be moved to the desired location.
  2. Make sure that the power LED lights of the NETGEAR wireless range extender are on and that it is plugged into a power source. 
  3. If your NETGEAR wireless range extender has a computer/device to Extender LED or a Device to Extender LED, make sure that it is lit. If not, replug both the ends of the Ethernet cable connecting the NETGEAR range extender and the device.
  4. In your web browser’s address bar, enter the extender’s default IP address: 192.168.1.250.
  5. If you are still unable to access your extender, reset your browser and try again.
  6. Try different web browsers to verify that the issue is not browser-related.
  7. Connect the device to the extender using an Ethernet cable.
  8. Assign your computer a static IP address. Before you change any network settings, note your current Default gateway (Windows) or Router (Mac) address. Use the IP address 192.168.1.249 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

Netgear extender default password

The default username is admin and the default password is password.

The username and password are case sensitive.

Click LOG IN.
